30/3/2025 - Worked out what fibreglass sheets we will need to start making the furniture, cupboards & flooring. Plus more peel ply, Fibreglass angle & glue. Worked out to be 29 sheets of foam varying in thicknesses of 10mm, 15mm & 20mm. Only a couple of sheets won't be fibreglassed. The product is called DuFlex. https://atlcomposites.com.au/category/27/DuFLEX
31/3/2025 - Filled bored holes with epoxy filler and fibreglass with 2 layers of 200 -0/90 cloth. Repositioned the 4 front bridgedeck bulkheads and glued them in.
Cut out all of the fibreglass & peel ply to tape all of the front dividers in.
1/4/2025 - Trev's Birthday. To Celebrate we had a day in the shed. 😄
Sanded, vaccumed & trimmed the fibreglassed holes in the bulkheads ready to glue in the keels on the starboard side.
Glued in all of the keels. A real ankle breaker.
2/4/2025 - Trev put a layer of epoxy filler in the bottom on each side of the keel to make fibreglassing the keels in a little bit easier. Fibreglassed in 4 keels. This is now a foot breaking exercise. Standing on top of the keel and bending down to place the fibreglass on each side. Trev wet up the fibreglass on a table first and all I had to do then was put it in place, plus put extra pieces on the ends to tie it all to the bulkheads as well as the hull. This was the process for all of the keels.
3/4/2025 - Fibreglassed in 4 more keels on the starboard side.
Drew in lines for the next 4 bulkhead dividers on the front bridgedeck.
Glued those in and 4 on the very front as well.
4/4/2025 - Glued Keels in, on the Port side. Did something to my ankle which hurt for a few days. Fibreglassed half of the next row of bulkhead dividers and glued in another 6 plus another 2 on the front. They are all glued in now. Just need to be fibreglassed.
6/4/2025 - Trev sanded all the front dividers and we finished fibreglassing them all.
Sanded the keels on the Port side and fibreglassed in 3 out of 8 left to do. Feet hurting too much to do more. Trev put a curve piece of board up each side at the front to give the shape of the front bridgedeck and to be able to use that as a guide to draw a line on the front bridgedeck when we lift it in place. I cut up a heap more rags.
9/4/2025 - Had a few personal & work days but Trev did a bit of trimming at the front he had to cut off the back edge of each bulkhead so that is sloped to fit the bridgedeck up.
10/4/2025 - Trev tried out the air tool to sand the holes in the keels. Then he set up the endless chains & straps to pick up the the front bridgedeck. Getting a loan of 2 more tomorrow. Set up ready for those as well. Fibreglassed another 3 keels in place. Measured up and cut fibreglass to tape the front bulkhead dividers to the front bridgedeck.
11/4/2025 - Phil brought the extra endless chains he borrowed, hooked those up and lifted the b/deck into place & traced the edge for the pieces to be cut off. Lowered the b/deck, cut off the two sides and raised again for a dry fit. Just required a bit of trimming. Lowered once again. Drew connecting lines on the b/deck where all of the bulkhead dividers line up. Mixed epoxy glue/filler & squeezed along those drawn in lines as well as on the end of the long bridgedeck which goes under the boat. Lifted in place. Was a bit bowie but put props under to sort that out a bit. Wiped off excess glue and wiped it in the join inside and smoothed out. Had lunch and then back out to mix a fresh lot of epoxy glue to do the coves and fill any gaps.
13/4/2025 - Sanded all the front b/deck sections. Vacuumed them out and wiped over with acetone ready to fibreglass. Cut extra fibreglass for the join inside. After lunch we taped in the first sections between BHD2 & Frame 1.5.
14/4/2025 - Completed taping the rest of the front b/deck bulkheads.
15/4/2025 - Fibreglassed the 3 layers of 600 double bias underneath at the bridgedeck joins and put an extra layer of 200 over the top of those and peel ply. That was a neck breaker.
Then we fibreglassed the last 2 keels in. 😅 the last of the foot breaking work
Trev did a bit of trimming on the front b/deck and pulled the peel ply off from up in the divided areas.
16/4/2025 - Trev pulled peel ply off the bridgedeck join underneath and mixed some fairing compound and wiped it on that area. (white)
17/4/2025 - Funeral to attend. I looked after grandkids and then we went ten pin bowling in the afternoon.
✟ HAPPY EASTER ✟
18/4/2025 - Sanded and put another layer of epoxy filler on the join. (creamy)
20/4/2025 - Sanded that again, Pulled peel ply off the last 2 keels and sanded those with the air tool.
21/4/2025 - Trev had dry fitted the foam planks on the cove section of the front b/deck. He pulled that down ready to glue the pieces together. We wanted to just glue these together without them being attached to the main parts of the boat so that they can be fibreglassed and pulled off. They will be fitted at a later date.
The reason for this is - when you look at the height of the bulkheads it's a long way down to the flaired section to do the taping in of the side panels to the bulkheads. The plan is to fit the bottom section of the cove first - we can then easily reach it to tape it in. Then we will tape in the side section as well before we put the cove section back in. This will allow us then to reach that easily enough from the top.
22/4/2025 - Used 200gm cloth to fibreglass th inside of the cove sections on both sides.
23/4/2025 - Day trip to ATL Composites to pick up our order. Up at 5am and home by 4pm. Unloaded bu 4:45pm
24/4/2025 - Trev cut out a template for the front. Glued foam to make the length for that front piece. Fibreglassed with 200gm the outside of the cove sections. Used left over peel ply from our last build.
🇦🇺 ANZAC DAY 🇦🇺
25/5/2025 - Trev - Cut & dry fitted front pieces under the cove. Trimmed the hull back on the flared section. Removed front b/deck coves, sanded and filled them in preparation for more fibreglassing with 600gm on the inside and 600 & 400gm on the outside. Me - had a day cleaning office and prepping the next video.
