Finishing Off The Queen Bed Areas & Started on The Head

Bit of trivia for those that don't know - The Head is the bathroom on a boat and The Galley is the Kitchen.

From the 8th June to 1st July - put in shelves at the end of the queen beds.  Angle was cut, glued and fibreglassed in around where the floor (sole) goes to have something structural for the floor to glued down too.  The hull was pointed out with undercoat primer - bit easier than getting in the hole to do it later.  The curved ends of the bed were made by cutting grooves in the back of the foam which allow the foam to bend in a curve.  The cut sections were then filled and put in place to cure then removed to fibreglass.  Somewhere in this process it went a little out of shape and had to have grooves cut in again to go around the curve.  Trev made up a template to cut out the floor.  He cut out hatch holes so that we will have access to the hull.  We had to make little shelves for the lids to sit down on back in that hatch cut out.  Lots of edges were routed out and filled with thickened epoxy and lots of edges routed to soften them.  With the second hole on the curved section we did a pilot hole to start with until we worked out where the steps fitted and it worked out that it could be cut the same as the top one which looks better than if they were different shapes.  The floor then needed to go in before we could do the stairs and the shoe holders.  Once we did everything that we could to the floor section while it was out, we glued it in and taped it. The stairs to the queen and the single bed were pretty tricky.  Looks good all glued together but there was a lot of pieces to make it all work properly - very time consuming.  The other side of the queen bed, the stairs were pretty straight forward.  Lots of sanding happened as well.

2nd July to 14th July - Trip to Guyra - oh my goodness it was extremely cold - got down to 2 degrees and a very chilly breeze.   I could not live there. Trip to Brisbane to the BLA Trade Show which was very informative plus spent a few days seeing family.   Came home and have worked on ordering items for the boat and doing end of financial year book work.  Had a bit of a clean up in the yard and house.

15/7/2025 - Day trip to the Gold Coast - ATL to pick up more DuFlex sheets - this time they are the sides and the deck plus the cabin sides and the windows.  Very excited to get the windows and mullions.  We can work on lowering the cabin top.

Actually we can work on a lot of things.  The sides may go up at the front but not back where motors and driveshafts still need to be sorted out.

17/7/2025 - Had a few extra hands today to help unload the A Frame, Relocate to the carport and then load it up again.  Some of these pieces we won't be needing for a while.

18/7/2025 - Last day to get BLA Trade Show Orders in.  Finally made a decision on the hatches and got that order done.  Can't wait to show you all the goodies when they arrive.  Taped in most of the starboard side Qn Bed stairs etc

20/7/2025 - Completed taping on the starboard side then switched over to the port side and knocked that all out as well. YAY. All taping completed in the queen bed areas.  Trev cut a length of conduit long ways to get it to go inside a stainless steel pipe.  This is what we will now be installing to carry the anchor chain through to the chain locker.

21/7/2025 - Trev cut out shelves for the bathroom cupboards, routed the edges and we filled with thickened epoxy and taped the edges to get them nice and smooth.  Used the remaining filler to start fairing the steps on the starboard side steps to the Qn Bed.

22/7/2025 - Trev removed the taped edges, cut shelves to shape, worked out bench height and the splash back for the bathroom sink.  We ordered the sink, plug and the connectors.  Trev glued all the shelves and the splash back in and spent the afternoon working out what size toilet we could fit in the space.

Cockpit Seat

Dinette Area

Lounge, King Single & Fridge Areas

Re-Do of the Third Step

Two Bulkheads - Won't fit in Bulkhead Section

Queen Bed Extension, Top Step & Bedside Cupboards

30/4/2025 - Started mocking up furniture in the cockpit.

1/5/2025 - Worked on layout in cabin and cockpit to determine the size.  Decide to have a return seat on the front end of the dining table.  Make it a U-shape instead of L shaped.  Bit worried little ones would fall off the end and down the stairs.

7/5/2025 - Trev made up more furniture pieces.

11/5/2025 - Cut out Cockpit Seat Pieces.

12/5/2025 - Glued in bottom pieces of the cockpit seat.  cut out top pieces.

13/5/2025 - Glued & fibreglassed in the top of the cockpit seat.  Had to lay in the box to do in the corners.  Bit claustrophobic.

14/5/2025 - Cut & Glued in place the box/seat where we will have a portable fridge freezer stored under the seat at the dining table. Cut out & joined 3 lengths for dinette seat.

15/5/2025 - Glued in dinette seat, back and seat front.  A lot of trimming and sanding to get it all to fit.  Cut out fridge back wall and glued the two pieces together ready for tomorrow.   Started cutting fibreglass and Trev routed some edges ready to fibreglass.

16/5/2025 - Finished cutting fibreglass for the dinette area.  Trev did a bit of sanding, edge routing and vacuuming.  Wiped down and did some coving and we fibreglassed the front and back of the dinette seat and inside the portable fridge/freezer compartment.

18/5/2025 - Cut cupboard section in bathroom (head) & glued in.  Cut dividers for the drawers under the table and glued in. Fit back, side and front of fridge/freezer section & glued in.  Cut floor for the lounge are to extend the bridgedeck. Cut the back of the drawer section.

19/5/2025 - Cut fibreglassed for around and inside fridge/freezer area, for the dividers under the table and the cupboard divider in the head.  Trev sanded and routed the corners, vacc'd & wiped over all the areas that need to be taped in.

Cut out foam pieces for make the cupboard & shelf in the king single.  Just having a shelf in there for clothes etc and a little shelf for phone, glasses etc. Finished glueing all the pieces in around 6:30pm.

20/5/2025 - Cut  & glued in the back sections of the lounge area and the extra drawer divider.

21/5/2025 to 26/5/2025 - Shopping, Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, visit grandkids & totally missed the biggest flood we have had since building our home.

Huge mud drop on the river bank.

27/5/2025 - Cut floors for lounge and dining raised areas.  Noticed the deck above the stairs may be a bit low when going down the stairs.  Sure enough Trev would hit his head.  Decided that another step needed to be cut into the cove.

We do a lot of measuring of things in the house eg drawer sizes and what will fit in them.  We decided to put 2 drawers in the dinette seat that we added to make a U-shape.  Trev cut & we glued angle in the dinette floor area.  This area is too deep to reach to fibreglass tape it in.  Glued end piece on the seat.

28/5/2025 - Cut the chair pieces out for the settee chair.  Cut out hole for the 3rd step down on the port side and glued the two step pieces together.  Trev sanded everywhere we need to fibreglass. I measured the areas in the king single, lounge area and under the floor that needs to be taped and cut out the fibreglass & peel ply. We tape everything in with 400DB & 200 Biaxial Fibreglass & peel ply.

29/5/2025 - Trip to bunnings and I worked on web page while Trev worked on the 50mm x 75mm foam that will be used to make a mullion for the sides of the entry to the cabin to stiffen up that section for when we fit a door. He routed out the back section to half way to install conduit for wiring to go to light switches.

30/5/2025 - Taped in all of the lounge backs and shelves in King Single including the little shelf for the phone which will have a charger in there.  Cut Fibreglass for the next steps that have been cut into the hull.  Trev cut off the starboard side step that was glued on and cut the hole through the hull.  His heel won't catch on the hull cove now and he won't hit his head going down the stairs.

1/6/2025 - Cut out more fibreglass for the steps.  Trev sanded everything ready to fibreglass and we fibreglassed in the two cutout steps on both the inside and the underside.

2/6/2025 - Fibreglassed in the last two bulkheads on the back on both sides.

Horrible job. Trev started to draw in where the anchor chain box will go.

3/6/2025 - I had a day - haircut and grocery shop while Trev made a template of the anchor chain box.  Have to talk to the designer about a few things before we get too carried away with that project.

4/6/2025 - Only half a day on the boat - had a call in for work.  Managed to get the Queen Bed Floor Extensions worked out and cut ready to glue in. Plus we worked out the bedside boxes.

5/6/2025 - Glued and fibreglassed in the queen bed extensions on both sides.

Did 400 DB & Uni on top and 400 DB only underneath.  Cut out boards to make bedside tables in the queen beds and glued the two pieces together.  Cut out fibreglass & peel ply ready to tape them together.

6/6/2025 - Trev glued the little front piece on the bedside cupboards.  There's for in total being made two for each queen bedsides. At some point Trev had routeed the 3 edges on the bedside cupboards. He sanded the riser that goes under the top step up in the queen bed areas.  Bit tricky with the curve of the hull but epoxy filler is good for filling the gaps. 😄 We glued those in, then fibreglassed the bedside cupboards and added a conduit for the wiring for charging ports and a light that will go on those.
