Preparing & Glueing Deck On

10/9/2025 - Trev mocked up the front handrail ready for when Gary came.to discuss the handrails and the deck fittings for them up along the front of the boat.

12/9/2025 - Gary came and after plenty of discussion worked out how to go about the handrails.

14/9/2025 - Mixed thickened epoxy and filled the single bed cupboard edges and put 2 layers of uni rope in the queen bed edges.  Fibreglassed BHD 1.5 extra thickness .  Cleaned up carport to move the boat so that we could get the front deck piece out.

15/9/2025 - Sanded the cupboard openings.  All look good.  Removed Peel Ply from the BHD 1.5 in the single bed.  Set up tables and pulled the deck piece out.  Marked out the hatches and cut them out, routed out the foam and filled with epoxy resin and put sticks over to keep fill in.  Trev drilled out 3 sections where the cleats will be located and glued in a piece of coosa board in the sections.  Then went to town for pipe to fit stainless steel stanchions into for the railing.

16/9/2025 - Trev cut pipes for stanchion bases, worked out placement. Cut lexan and glued to bottom of the pipes to stop the glue going up the pipe when glueing on.  Bored holes where pipes to go. Mixed up a runny batch of thickened epoxy and glued the pipes in and clamped in place and fibreglassed them.

17/9/2025 - Hatches and Cleats arrived.

18/9/2025 - Trev to work and I sanded from the starboard side to the middle getting ready for the deck to go on.  Started cutting fibreglass.  After work Trev mad the ledges for the single be cupboard shelves.

19/9/2025 - Trev made the shelves for single bed cupboards and put lifting latches in them.

21/9/2025 - Sanded the rest of the front sections. Trev drilled holes and shaped foam to glue in the front wet lockers to drain any water through to the anchor chain locker. Drilled holes in the backing plates

22/9/2025 - Vacuumed all of the front areas and and prepped the area where foam pieces to be glued in.  Cut out more fibreglass.  Filled the holes with epoxy resin and then glued in the foam pieces and fibreglassed them in.

23rd & 24th - Kim Chamberlin and family came to visit and see the boats progress in person.  Trevor & Kim went over the whole boat discussing many things.  Set up the windows on the front to see how they all fitted.

25/9/2025 - Cut fibreglass to reinforce under the cleat area.  Trev had to do a bit of drilling out of the countersunk area on the cleats.  Not very well done by manufacturer.  Welded the barrel nuts to the metal plates - (should have typed this up before doing the video). Drilled holes in the deck for the cleats.  Fibreglassed with 3 layers of various sizes then glued the metal plate in place and another 3 layers of fibreglass and peel ply and clamps.

26/9/025 - Lifted the deck on to the top of the boat. Cut holes for the stanchions - rail posts - Cut out lid for the anchor chain entrance. Trimmed where the metal backing on the cleats hit the bulkheads. Trimmed a little bit where the deck has cut outs to slip each side of the bulkheads.  Shifted the hanging points to lift deck and spread thickened epoxy on all of the tops of the bulkheads where the deck sits and lowered the deck on top.  Strapped down and clamped and put weights where needed.  Wiped excess epoxy resin from the edges and inside areas where we can access.  Very warm down in those holes.  Won't be fibreglassing those in the middle of the day.

Another mile stone reached with the deck now glued on.

Fibreglassing Deck to Bulkheads & Working in the Bonnet Area

28/9/2025 - Cut more fibreglass for the top of the deck where the deck slotted into the short bulkheads on what is called the Bonnet section of the deck.  Trev cleared away all the strap and weights and made an angled shelf to make it easier to lay in the front sections to fibreglass. He also cut out all the cnc routed pieces for the lower cabin side/sill and the chamfer sections.   Had a look at the back section where the side comes down to the transom and drew in the shape we would prefer.  This is so that when stepping onto the boat from a dock you can reach a hand rail easier.  As it is now you would have to lean and that won't work for when we get older 😄. Started sanding the front bow section and then applied blue food colouring to show the lower spots.

29/9/2025 - Up at 5:30am to start fibreglassing in the front storage areas - connecting the bulkheads to the deck.  This day we managed to fibreglass the cupboards and the 2 storage areas and the single bed area on the starboard side and the 3 larger areas inside the hatches.  Trev did a bit more sanding on the starboard side bow.

30/9/2025 - Fibreglassed the top section where the bonnet will sit and where the deck slotted in.  Also fibreglassed in the 2 sections in the starboard side at the very front.

1/10/2025 - Fibreglassed in the 3 hardest sections in the storage area down in the hatches.  Fibreglassed the cupboards & storage area in the port single bed and the single bed area as well as the insides of the first two sealed bulkhead sections on both sides.  Dry fitted the the side walks, removed the peel ply and glued the joins and used thickened epoxy to glue  them to the bulkheads.

2/10/2025 - Dry fitted lower cabin sides, cabin sills and chamfers.

3/10/2025 - Had help from the neighbours camping family and friends to lift the bonnet up onto the deck.  We had to put the bonnet up to see how everything was to fit together. That included the side lower cabin pieces, the side windows, the mullions on the front and the windows in the front.  This was to make sure that all the pieces were in the correct positions under where the window frames are to go.

5/10/2025 - Spent a lot of time fitting the port side window frames and adjusting the roof heights and squaring up the roof a bit more.  Glued the side pieces on the walkway and dry fitted the chamfer piece.

6/10/2025 - Dry fitted and checked the chamfer pieces again and glued down all of the front straight pieces and then glued the chamfer and the slope piece that goes under the windows.

7/10/2025 - Trev trimmed a few of the chamfer pieces and then we glued those onto the straight pieces around where the bonnet sits.

8/10/2025 - Worked in the morning & in the afternoon Trev Routed out the tops of bulkheads 2 & 3.

9/10/2025 - Made extra pieces for across the queen bed frame 2.5 to make 60mm thick instead of just 20mm. Made a brace piece that sits under the front windows and across the dry locker area.  Cut Uni to make rope and then we wet up with resin twirled it and put it in the brace piece and in the top of BHDs 2 & 3.  Glued the extra pieces across the Qn bed area on both sides.  on top of the uni rope we put taped pieces to not only hold it all in but to give a nice smooth finish.

10/10/2025 - Sanded BHD's 2 & 3 and in the curved area where we need to fibreglass the inside of the bonnet area.  Vacuumed and wiped down the area.  Measured and cut out fibreglass just one layer of 600DB in there and in the middle only we added an extra layer of 400 DB.  Fibreglassed the inside of the 5 sections to the bulkheads and the deck.

Trev spent the afternoon routing around the side and front windows.

12/10/2025 - Trev routed out the front windows and cleaned up the work area while I cut out the Uni to create ropes for all the window edges.  We managed to get one of the side windows done (3 windows) and 4 of the individual front windows plus the support under the mid window.

13/10/2025 - Finished of the 1 single window and the other side windows with Uni rope in the routed out edges.  Trev sanded the ones we did yesterday.  He worked out where the hatches on the bonnet are to go and finished sanding the windows.

14/10/2025 - Trev & Phil working on the Phil's boat trailer today, ready to go fishing next week.

15/10/2025 - Trev cut holes in the front of the bonnet section so that when we are at anchor and it is raining we can have the hatches open collection fresh air and it will go into the hatch up through the holes and then through vents into the queen bed areas.  We plan to run a pipe through to the single beds as well before the bonnet goes on.

Next we will be working in the anchor chain hole where the anchor chain winch will have a shelf and we just need to make sure the winch is positioned so that if we ever need to release the chain manually, there is plenty of room for the winch handle. Just need to pick up the winch before we can do that.

Next week we are having a week away at Inskip fishing plus picking up the winch and paint for the storage lockers.

Projects Before Bonnet Goes On

16/10/2025 - Received a big order before we went away.  Bit worried it would turn up after we left,  It's been like christmas for the last couple of months where we have placed orders back in July/August and spread out the delivery dates.

You will get to see all the goodies when we work in the areas they are to be installed or when they get fitted permanently.  The first you will see is the anchor winch.  It might not seem much but each little thing is a bit exciting.

17/10/2025 to 26/10/2025 - Had a little holiday to Brisbane then on to Inskip for 4-5 days fishing 🎣. Back to Brisbane for our oldest Grandson's 12th birthday 🎉.  Those years have flown by so quick and he's off to high school next year.  Where does the time go.

27/10/2025 - We are home but Trev had a day concreting with a mate.

28/10/2025 - While we were away we picked up the anchor chain winch, more fibreglass and  bulge paint.  Today we unpacked the winch to work out how that will all work and which way we need to mount in the locker.  Trev cut coosa board and fibreglass.  Cut out the mounting holes.  Fibreglassed the two pieces of coosa board.  Pulled out the peel ply from the front wet locker small sections.

29/10/2025 - Started to vacuum out the front wet locker sections and wipe them out ready to paint but that has been postponed until we get the Bonnet on.  Trev glued the 2 coosa board pieces together, I cut fibreglass and then we glued and screwed the shelf in place and fibreglassed. Plus cut drainage holes through the bridgedeck in the anchor chain locker.   Routed those out and filled with thickened epoxy.

30/10/2025 - Removed the peel ply from the shelf.  Sanded the area ready to put the upright bulkhead in place.  Cut more fibreglass and peel ply ready for that job.

Glued bulkhead to the walls, floor and shelf in the dry locker.  Fibreglassed inside, top and outside.  Marked out the 4 hatches on the bonnet and cut them out.  Spent rest of afternoon whipper snipping and mowing.

31/10/2025 - Trev routed out the hatch holes ready to put uni and thickened epoxy in them.  Rounded off the top of one short bulkhead where the hatch for the anchor winch and in front of that bulkhead will be a hoe and tap installed to hosedown the deck.  So that small bulkhead will be visible when the hatch is open.

Rounded/routed the cabin sides underneath that are in the queen be area.  Also in the queen be area he cut off the centre bulkhead to match the two other pieces glued to it.  I measured up and started cutting out fibreglass ready for when the bonnet goes on and I cut more uni for the hatches.  After lunch we set about doing the uni ropes and thickened epoxy in the hatches and glued on 2 fibreglass angles where we can't access to tape once the bonnet is on.
