Bearers for Motors In Place

30/3/2026 to 1/4/2026 - Fibreglassed the tops of the engine bearers. Added western red cedar and another layer of fibreglass and then coosa board on top.

Cut out foam for the braces behind BHD 5 and glued them in.

2/4/2026 to 8/4/2026 - Cut out the small bulkheads that go between the bearers and put a layer of fibreglass on bothe sides to bring up to specified amount of fibreglass.

9/4/2026 to 12/4/2026 - Cut out bracing for BHD 4.5 in the water compartment. Cut out the floor section for the water tank.

Sanded the floor area and painted with flow coat as well as the underside of the floor section on both sides.  The braces in this area will form part of the baffles in the water tank.  Cut fibreglass for areas ready to be fibreglassed.

13/4/2026 - 20/4/2026 = Glued in water tank bases. Spent a day with the grandchildren.  Went to a funeral in Alstonville.  Picked up the stainless steel for the bearer tops and fibreglassed those on to the coosa board and then 3 layers over the top with 600 DB.

Fibreglassed the water tank floor - taped all the edges with two layer of 600 DB.  Fibreglassed the hull in the engine area.

Trev glued in the bearers after cutting them down properly & fitting them in place.

Cut more fibreglass and coved engine bearers.

21/4/2026 to 24/4/2026 - Prepped the wedge pieces and the pieces that go between the bearers for when those areas are all fibreglassed then we can fit and fibreglass those in.  He has also been working on the bulkhead that the thrust bearing requires.  The little jobs get done between times spent with the grandies.  Next week we will hope to have a good run on fibreglassing everything so that the engine bearers can be completed before we take delivery of the motors.

Fibreglassing Engine Bearers & Braces

26/4/2026 - Along the sides of the bearers will be closed in and Trev cut the tops for those and dry fitted them.

27/4/2026 - Cut the Single Berth Hatch holes today.  Routed out the edges and filled with thickened epoxy and uni.

29/4/2026 - Prepped the hulls and the bearers by sanding and wiping them down with alcohol.  Sorted the cut fibreglass ready to get crackin' on that tomorrow.

30/4/2026 - Started fibreglassing we did the triangular pieces first in between BHD's 5 & 6 and fibreglassed the inside bearer on the starboard side and wiped out the port side ready for tomorrow.

1/5/2026 - Fibreglassed port side triangular pieces and the inside bearer on the port side.

3/5/2026 - Bunnings trip to pick up a length of pipe for the back posts and later cut out fibreglass for the pipes.

4/5/2026 - Fibreglassed the last bearer and the two braces that butt up to the other side of  BHD's 4.5 on both sides.

5/5/2026 -  Put a layer of thickened epoxy in the bottom of the engine bay hull to assist with drainage back to BHD 6 from the Engine well.  Dry fitted the Engine Mount Braces that go across the hull.  Cut fibreglass to tape in those pieces.

6/5/2026 - Glued in the braces that go across the hull to brace the engine bearers.

7/5/2026 - Fibreglassed in the cross bracing pieces plus glued and fibreglasses the top pieces on each side of the engine bearers on both the port and starboard sides.

Bracing, Shafts, Motors & Painting

10/5/2026 - Pulled peel ply from the bracing.

15/5/2026 - Using a length of rod we borrowed from NCS to act as the prop shaft we lined up the stern tube to get in the correct position.  Had to trim our a few BHD's to lower the starboard side.

17/5/2026 - Spend a fair bit of time aligning the stern tubes better.

18/5/2026 - Found a few measurements not quite right still.  Very fiddly job this one.  Once corrected tack glued to stern tube on the Port Side.

Yanmar 110hp turbo diesel motors arrived this day right when we were having all the rain. Used neighbours driveway to unload them onto the ute and then endless chain to get them off.

19/5/2029 - Sorted out the stern tube problems on the starboard side and tack glued it as well.

20th to 24th - Attended the Sanctuary Cove boat show and to Brisbane for weekend.

25/5/2026 - Prepped to paint.  Wiped the engine area all with alcohol and painted starboard side engine area and the next section back with the bracing.

26/5/2026 - Lined up prop shaft, thrust bearing bulkhead and the bearing.  Glued in the thrust bearing bulkheads on both sides.  Worked out engine mount placements, drilled and tapped ready.  Spent hours working it out.

27/5/2026 - Cut out fibreglass for the thrust bearing bulkhead.  Removed shaft and bearing.  Painted flow coat in the port side engine areas.  ade bracing for the thrust bearing bulkhead.

28/5/2026 - Trev checked all the measurements again for the drive shafts and cardan shafts and bearings and from one side to the other there was 1mm difference.  Cheerin'.  Cut more fibreglass.

29/5/2026 - Fibreglassed around the stern tube at Frame 6.5 on both sides.  Between bulkheads 6.5 and 7 filled under the stern tube with expanding foam.

31/5/2026 - Fibreglassed in the thrust bearing bulkhead with multiple layers of uni, 600 DB going diagonally above and below the hole plus across and in the corners.

1/6/2026 - Phil came to give Trev a hand to put the motors in place.  The starboard one went in so easy with just a few adjustments to the angle of the mounts.  The Port side one had a little hiccup that was soon rectified and then it went in as well.  Ready for the rep tomorrow.

2/6/2026 - Ian Mills the NSW Marine Sales Manager for Power Equipment - called in to see the motors we ordered from him in place.  Chatted with Trev about all things to do with the motor eg filters, exhaust, vents, battery etc and to go through the Vetus catalogue for other components required.

Trev filled the area where the expanding foam was put with epoxy.  Had a few bits dribble out of holes.  Hopefully that is all now filled in.

Glued on more bracing pieces on the thrust bearing bulkhead, ready to fibreglass.

3/6/2026 - Fibreglassed the bracing pieces to the thrust bearing bulkhead on both sides.  Fibreglassed on top of the stern tube where we put the expanding foam and the resin.

4/6/2026 - Trev sanded keel section that the stern tube extrudes from, ready to add extra fill and build up the edges, especially on the port side.  I cut fibreglass for the area.  Trev cut out the hole in Frame F5.5 ready for the cardan shaft to go through to the thrust bearing.

5/6/2026 - Fibreglassed the Stern Tube section on the keel.  Filled the edges of the the hole cut in Frame F5.5 with thickened epoxy.

7/6/2026 - Trimmed Keels where built up with thickened epoxy.  Bored holes for the tender winch cables through BHD6.  Cut foam pieces to go in the top of the expanding foam filled areas. Sanded out the filler in the round hole and routed the edges.

8/6/2026 - Sanded all areas that had fairing compound on them. Sanded Sections where thrust bearings are.

9/6/2026 - Little bit of sanding and a whole lot of looking and thinking.  After the motor and shafts we are starting on the water and fuel tank areas.  Working out where the hot water system will go and all the pipes - water, salt and fresh, fuel lines, electrical. etc

10/6/2026 - painted the thrust bearing section.  Painted where the stern tube comes out between bulkheads 6 & 6.5.

11/9/2026Bolted the thrust bearing in and did the measurements for the cardan shafts and ordered those.  To Bunnings for more expanding foam for around the stern tube.

12/6/2026 - Fibreglassed the tops of the stern tube areas after grinding back the expanding foam explosion.
