50ft Chamberlin Catamaran Build50ft Chamberlin Catamaran Build50ft Chamberlin Catamaran Build

January 2026

2/1/2026 -  Routed edges in the kitchen and helm areas.  Measured up and cut fibreglass.  Filled the routed edged with thickened epoxy. Rounded off the top of the raised edges.

4/1/2026 - More Routing and sanding in the kitchen and helm areas.  Trev worked on the Nav Table Lid and the compartments inside.  Cut more fibreglass.

Filled routed areas with thickened epoxy. Glued Top on the Settee Seat section near the steering station and the straight piece on the floor to join the curve section.

5/1/2026 - Sanded and made compartments in the nav table and the shelves for the nav table lid to close onto.  Glued those in place. Cut more fibreglass.

6/1/2026 - Sanded and prepped to fibreglass everything on the port side that needed to be fibreglassed.  Set up cooler and fans galore to help cool it a bit.

Fibreglassed the overhead areas in the engine room, bathroom area, step area, where the inverter will go and the queen bed area.

7/1/2026 - Pulled peel ply and sanded all the edges and rough bits.  Organised all the cut fibreglass into piles ready for tomorrows big day fibreglassing.

8/1/2026 - Up early before it got too hot and fibreglassed the navigation and helm area, kitchen cupboards and stove area.

9/1/2026 - Up early again not as organised as yesterday but we fibreglassed the overhead areas in the king single, behind where the stove goes and the queen bed area on the starboard side.  Looked at how we would close in the topside edge.

11/1/2026 - Pulled peel ply, Sanded everything that needed sanding.  Routed out the front of the helm seat, glued in chart table top and the end of the seat. Filled the routed edge with thickened epoxy.  Cleaned up everything and then started playing with the laser on the drive shaft location.  One keel was a little shorter at the prop.

13/1/2026 - Bored a few holes for conduit.  Prepped mullions for the doorway.        A lot of working things out day.  eg where extra conduits are required for the motor to lift the tender; to the microwave and through to the queen beds; 12v to the nav station chargers;  working out the height we need the steering station seats at and how we can achieve that - need a 70mm high slider under them.

Checked vents for refrigeration area and marked out where to cut openings.  Glued 15mm scrap pieces of foam together to make the floor for the fridge area.

15/1/2026 to 23/1/2026 - In Brisbane grandchildren sitting.

24/1/2026 to 27/1/2026 - came home to our other grandchildren visiting.

29/1/2026 - Last day of working - Tomorrow we will be officially retired or tired.

30/1/2026 - Thickened epoxy filled the edges of the fridge/freezer area that Trev routed out at some point. 😅 Not sure when.

1/2/2026 - Sanding around the fridge/freezer areas and did a bit of routing.  Put the top on the Fridge/Freezer area.  We unloaded insulation out of the trailer and stored under the house.  A job for another day is to put it up.

2/2/2026 - Cut fibreglass and then fibreglassed the Nav area, the kitchen, nav floor; inside the fridge freezer - top, sides and floor and one piece in the king single that we missed previously.

3/2/2026 - Peeled off peel ply. Trev planned to paint but the plans changed to cleaning out the ceiling instead.

February & Start of March 2026

4/2/2026 - Trev glued in the back of the inverter cupboard.  A fair bit now is just Trev working while I rearrange the house and put things away or boxed up and stored or given away.

6/2/2026 - Measured up for the eaves on the boat. Cut angle ready to glued and screw in place.  Cut some of the eaves and glued up some of the angle.  We both got up and worked out where we would put the drain hole for the roof and how we would plumb that so that it could go overboard or fill up the water tanks.

8/2/2026 - Trev sanded ready to put up eaves.  We glued them up and screwed them in place.  Drilled two holes in the single beds for the round vents.  He screwed up two vents underneath the bridgedeck where the chain locker is.  Looks a bit like dogs balls.🤭  Not sure if we stick with those or something a little more slim lined.

9/2/2026 - Cut Uni for Bulkhead 5 inside and out

Cut angle for the eaves.  Put structural bog on the starboard keel 5-10mm to make up the difference from port to starboard side.

LOOKED AND WONDERED then did a  bit more looking and wondering. Working things out in his head how we will go about doing things.  Cut out 4 more pieces of angle for the eaves.  A bit fiddly.

10/2/2026 - Sanded starboard keel. Cut vent holes in eaves, routed and filled the edges.

11/2/2026 - Sanded eaves,  Sanded the port side nose of the boat to round it off a bit.  Sanded vent holes and had a bit of a tidy up in the shed.

13/2/2026 - Cut out pieces for the cockpit windows to make them higher to allow for the seat back rests.  Glued those in.

15/2/2026 to 18/2/2026 - Bored holes through the keel at 2 deg for the propellor shaft etc.  The starboard side was fairly easy going but ended up being 1.5 degrees which meant we had to elongated the holes. No problem.

The port side proved to be a bit more difficult to get through.  Got stuck at BHD 7/7.5 not sure which but there was a lot of fibreglass in that section.  Eventually got it with a slightly larger hole cutting piece.  Where the holes went through the bulkheads Trev routed out the foam and filled with thickened epoxy.

More fibreglass cut to do the settee ends and the back of the inverter wall on the nav station side.

19/2/2026 -BHD 5 - Fibreglassed the inside corners with Uni, the last of our carbon fibre uni and with 400/600 double bias.  Fibreglassed inside the fishing rod areas.

ORDERED MOTORS TODAY.

20/2/2026 - WENT FISHING.  🎣  6 Flathead & 1 Whiting.  Trev was the winner - 5 Flathead.

1/3/2026 - Fibreglassed two small bulkheads that will support the end of the driveshaft and the cutlass bearing.

3/3/2026 - Finished glueing and coving the eaves.  Glued the Shelf in - back of settee near window plus glued two pieces on the edges of the top to make wider.

4/3/2026 - Sanded and added thickened epoxy to the top of the settee back rest and the end of the shelf. Sanded the Qn bed areas and single bed areas where we had wiped on fairing compound and Trev put a second layer of fairing compound on the port side.

5/3/2026 - Sanded rounded top on the settee seat back etc.  Put a second layer of fairing compound on the starboard side Qn bed & single bed areas.
